Spitting Image
I’ve had several folks comment just over the past couple of weeks how much Owen looks like me. “Looks like you spit him out of your mouth,” I’ve heard folks say. Now that doesn’t sound much like a compliment when you think about it. But as you can see he sure is a handsome little fellow, so I guess that I can take that as a compliment. His mother would be quick to tell you, he doesn’t only look like me, and I can tell you, that is not always good! He’s got a strong will and we’ve battled it a good bit lately. But we’re resolved and I’m “standing on the promises” (Prov 22:15, 29:15). This parenting business is an awfully big responsibilty. I read a great parenting article today. The last couple of lines set forth this truth: “The first step in child training is to decide what you want your child to become and them become that very person yourself. The second principle of child training is don’t complain or be surprised when they turn out to be just like you.” I guess I’m honored that the Lord has given me a son (actually three) “in my own likeness, after my own image.” I just hope I’m becoming the type of man that I would proud for my sons to become.
